BlueOn x Nexans: an innovative partnership for responsible and low-carbon electrification

In a context where energy transition and carbon footprint reduction have become strategic imperatives, the partnership between Nexans and BlueOn stands out as a model of innovative synergy. BlueOn is an initiative set up by Eiffage, one of Europe's leading construction and concession companies, to make product environmental data transparently available via a single marketplace dedicated to professionals. Backed by 15 years of commitment to exemplary environmental performance, Nexans – a French leader in cable manufacturing – is strengthening its “Low-Carbon” labeling program by showcasing more data within BlueOn’s digital platform, providing unprecedented visibility into product environmental data.

A data transparency-driven approach
The initiative is part of a broader strategy that places environmental data at the heart of purchasing decisions. As a supplier committed to the sustainable electrification of buildings, Nexans is the first cable manufacturer to make its products' environmental data fully transparent on the BlueOn platform. Through indicators derived from lifecycle assessments, PEP Ecopassports, and other complementary sources, Nexans offers its clients – including major players such as Eiffage – reliable and verifiable information on the carbon footprint of its products. This system allows users to objectively compare environmental performance, making data a criterion as important as price.

Innovation driving environmental digitalization
By integrating this information directly into the purchasing process, BlueOn provides an intuitive interface that enables all stakeholders – from design offices to procurement managers – to easily access key indicators (such as the proportion of recycled materials or water consumption during production). This transparency not only fosters a better understanding of environmental impacts but also encourages continuous improvement of processes and technical solutions. By facilitating access to accurate and comparable environmental data, this collaboration offers an inspiring model for responsible electrification on a global scale – a genuine lever to accelerate the low-carbon transition in the infrastructure and construction sectors.

Beyond its environmental significance, this approach contributes to competitiveness and innovation. Today, tenders and regulatory requirements compel manufacturers to demonstrate the sustainable value of their products. The partnership between BlueOn and Nexans offers a concrete solution by transforming data into a true differentiating factor. Additionally, incorporating environmental indicators paves the way for a circular economy where recycling, repairability, and reuse become essential criteria for the entire ecosystem.
A strong commitment to creating a new generation of cables
The partnership aims to meet growing stakeholder expectations in terms of sustainability. The increasing demand from customers for products with high recycled content and low carbon footprints also brings logistical and technical challenges, particularly regarding the collection and treatment of waste (such as recycled aluminum cables). This dual challenge – product quality and raw material availability – is being tackled by Nexans through its dedicated recycling service, CABLELOOP, which guarantees the next generation of cables. Indeed, cable waste and used cables are transformed into sustainable economic value by Nexans, which ensures full traceability and end-to-end recycling.
